If water is the source of life, then its quality determines the level of health. Every day a person drinks up to 2–2.5 liters of liquid. If each glass contains at least a few micrograms of impurities that are harmful to the body, then during his life every inhabitant of the planet can so “clog” his internal organs with salts and heavy metals that the entire immune system will suffer and most vital processes will be disrupted. It is for this reason that it is so important to monitor what we and our children drink on a daily basis. In this article we will talk about bottled water, tell you what it is, what properties it has and whether it is useful.

To begin with, we note that such a product is massively on the grocery shelves of stores throughout the civilized world. European and Western countries, as well as most Asian countries, are actively fighting for the ecological situation, so they offer to drink liquid from bottles, which, by the way, has a fairly affordable price. In Russia, this practice is less common, but this is mainly due to the low awareness of citizens about the benefits of a bottled product, and also due to the fact that it is cheaper and more profitable to purchase a good filtration system for the home, which will allow you to receive no less high-quality water resource. in any quantity.

What does the term “bottled water” mean?

types of bottled water

This is a liquid that has passed all stages of water treatment (purification) and testing in production, and has also been packaged in pre-prepared containers. Bottles are made from certain raw materials (plastic, glass), which also undergoes chemical and thermal processing, and meets all sanitary and hygienic standards. In addition to the pure H2O formula, there may be some specialized additives that prolong the preservation period, as well as additionally add color or smell (flavors, dyes). Sweeteners and flavorings change the category of the drink, turning it into lemonade.

In addition to the above, you can find the following names: mineralized, purified, medicinal, dining, drinking, etc. It can be carbonated and non-carbonated. The most popular is soda. And the most useful — less tasty due to the content of minerals, but very good for health mineral water. It should be sold in pharmacies and used only as directed by a doctor (for the prevention and treatment of diseases).

Testing water “Vista”

Artesian drinking water, purified

Manufacturer: LLC “ViST”, Sverdlovsk region, Sysert district

The following is written on the manufacturer’s website: drinking Artesian Water “VISTA” is extracted in an ecologically clean Sysert region from a well more than 76 meters deep, located in a forest, around which a sanitary zone of 1 hectare has been created. The water source is protected from external anthropogenic factors, sterile conditions are created at the production site.

Mineralization — 100–150 mg/l, calcium no more than 130 mg/l, oxygen 5–9 mg/l, magnesium no more than 65 mg/l, potassium no more than 20 mg/l, bicarbonates — no more than 100 mg/l, fluorides not more than 0.02 mg/l.

The number of the well is indicated on the bottle. Therefore, we trust the manufacturer. In our taste testing, this water took first place.

The testers described it as follows: no foreign odors, soft, neutral, pleasant to the taste, slightly sweet, quenches thirst well, it is felt that this is not a distillate.

bottled water what does it mean

We noted that in this section we will consider the classification of drinks for everyday drinking, and not mineralized, that is, medicinal. They deserve special attention. This liquid discharge has a low alkali content, in fact it has no taste, color and smell. It can be drunk daily in unlimited quantities, regardless of age, the presence of additional diseases and other factors. Its origin can be different — it is extraction from artesian wells, collection from the surfaces of natural reservoirs, or even bottling from a water supply system. But regardless of where it comes from, it goes through a multi-stage water treatment.

After cleaning, all drinks can be divided by quality (content of impurities) into two categories:

  • First. It is completely safe for health, suitable for everyday use. The source may be completely different. At the same time, if it is used as an initial resource from the water supply, then traces of chlorination may remain in it. As you know, treatment with chlorine-containing substances is the most common method of disinfection. But even in this case, the concentration of chlorine is so low that it does not harm health at all.
  • Higher. It is extracted from sources that are protected from any negative biological or chemical impact. The content of impurities is more clearly regulated, the most stringent rules for verification are presented. The requirements apply not only to the maximum allowable values of substances (as in the water of the first category). Thus, if initially the resource is not sufficiently enriched with minerals, then they are additionally introduced into the composition, so a physiologically complete liquid is obtained, which is ideal for drinking, does an excellent job of preventing dehydration, and also quenches thirst.

You can also find the inscription “children’s” on the labels, that is, intended for use by children under 3 years old. In its composition, it meets all the requirements for the highest category, however, in addition, it should not contain preservatives, which are most often used as silver ions or carbon dioxide. These components can adversely affect the functioning of the digestive tract in a baby. Also, the level of fluorine is reduced, because its concentration is too high for a small body weight of the child.

Testing Evian water

Natural natural mineral table water

Manufacturer: S. A des Eaux Minerales d’EVIAN, France

Mineral water from a French manufacturer, who claims that before the water reaches the consumer, it goes through natural filtration by rocks for 15 years, acquiring a unique mineral composition. Mineralization 300–750 mg/l.

Bottled straight from the source. This is the most expensive water of the proposed specimens.

During the testing of this water, the opinions of colleagues greatly differed. Some noted that the water was pleasant, without any extra tastes and smells, while others argued that the water was similar to well-purified tap water. They also wrote that the water is empty, it is difficult for her to get drunk, it is a little sour, similar to distilled water.

requirements for bottled drinking water

We all know the H2O formula from school. But in fact, such a pure combination of carbon and oxygen does not occur in nature. Mineral impurities will be found in microscopic fractions, tenths of one percent, as well as in concentration even less. Some of them have a good effect on human health, since they saturate the body with microelements necessary to maintain pH (water-salt balance), others have a negative effect, settle on the walls of the gastrointestinal tract and in the organs of the urinary system. Usually it is about 50 different substances. Their complete list, of course, will not be indicated on the label, but, most likely, the content of the main elements will be noted, as well as the level of mineralization — low, medium, high. For daily consumption in unlimited quantities, a liquid with minerals from 200 to 500 milligrams per liter is suitable. If you drink 2 liters per day, as doctors recommend, then only from drinking water alone you can get 20% of the daily norm of calcium, 25% of magnesium, 50–80% of fluorine and 50% of iodine, which is very significant for a normal diet. person.

Depending on which mineral (or their combination) in the highest concentration, the drink is suitable for the prevention and treatment of various diseases.

Ordinary drinking is considered low-mineralized, since both too high an amount of impurities and too low are harmful for daily use. But if you can remove the components using different water treatment systems, then environmentalists are more worried about sources with a “poor” mineral composition.

However, a hard resource (most often it is tap water without additional filtration) is also not always better than too soft. It’s bad for everyday tasks. But in bottles, hardness often attracts consumers. The presence of salts makes such a drink tastier, it resembles moisture from a natural source.

The main criterion, which is guided by manufacturing specialists, as well as experts in laboratories, is cleanliness. Everything is simple here — the more well the resource is cleaned, the better it is. And the indicator that confirms this is the content of O2. In a typical drinking liquid, there are on average 1.5 million oxygen particles per liter. When analyzing effluents (from domestic or street sewage), the number of these elements increases significantly — up to 450 million. Therefore, the greater the oxygen saturation, the more likely the spread of living microorganisms, including pathogenic bacteria.

Additionally, there are several criteria for assessing quality:

  • taste and visual characteristics (transparency, color), as well as the presence of odor, some elements, such as hydrogen sulfide, make the liquid smell strongly;
  • hardness, that is, the concentration of potassium and sodium salts — this determines the level of acidity (pH balance), it should be equal to 7, that is, a neutral indicator for everyday use;
  • the limiting content of other trace elements, which is regulated by the normative act GOST R 54316–2011.

The analysis can be complex or abbreviated. The second option is acceptable when the liquid is examined at the consumer’s request. The first type of verification is required in order to approve the launch of a new drink into production.

Testing Bon Aqua water

Pure drinking water

Manufacturer: The Coca Cola Company

In the production of bottled water, water is used from various sources — underground wells and centralized drinking water supply systems.

Calcium 15–45 mg/l, magnesium 5–40 mg/l, sodium 1–15 mg/l, potassium — 25 mg/l, chlorides 30–140 mg/l, bicarbonates — less than 100 mg/l, sulfates less than 20 mg/l, total mineralization — 100–350 mg/l

This water is purified in several stages, and then enriched with vital macro- and microelements.

The testers did not like the taste of this water. They wrote about water like this: some kind of tap water, tasteless, empty, unpleasant, there is some kind of aftertaste (perfume), reminiscent of water passed through an old filter.

Types of bottled water: international classification

what is bottled water

This separation system was developed in the USA, but it is followed by product manufacturers around the world. According to its rules, there are seven types of water resources.

Artesian

Its extraction takes place in the deep layers between rocks. On average, the depth of the source varies between 35 and 250 meters — it depends on the specific flow of the stream in this place. The process of hydraulic extraction is quite simple due to the fact that the jet comes out under pressure. Therefore, often such points are equipped in private areas.

Drinking

This is any liquid bottled that has no taste and smell, as well as various chemical additives in the composition. And if they are (for example, any essences). then their content should not exceed 1%. sodium salts are also a minimal amount, they are virtually non-existent.

Mineral bottled water — what does it mean

This is not a mineral-fortified drink, but a natural one. That is, all substances are in the composition even before the hydro-extraction process. These are sources that can be considered curative depending on the concentration of impurities. Usually it is from 0.25 mg per 1 liter of moisture. Such a permissible percentage is already offered by the Russian classification (GOST 13272–88 standard).

Purified

This is moisture that has been heavily filtered through a reverse osmosis system or through distillation, deionization. It is considered very soft, perfect for the operation of various technical units, but not suitable for daily consumption, since it does not contain the microelements that the body needs at all.

For home cleansing, you can use cleaning systems from. Properly selected filtration equipment will remove manganese, iron, calcium, magnesium, microorganisms, organic residues and sediment, mechanical particles, odor and dissolved hydrogen sulfide. Drinking liquid after that will not be harmful to the body, and scale on the coils of the kettle and heating elements of household appliances will no longer accumulate.

Sparkling or carbonated

Even after cleaning, carbon dioxide, or carbon dioxide, remains in it, which contributes to the appearance of bubbles. A classic soda or seltzer is bottled water, while when sweetened or flavored, it becomes lemonade.

SF-mix manual up to 0.8 m³/h

Its second name is spring. In fact, it undergoes only mechanical cleaning, that is, from coarse contaminants, if after the analysis it is confirmed that the composition is suitable for drinking. And for the rest of its qualities and properties, such a resource remains in its original form. Many consumers note excellent taste.

Well

By the name it is already clear that it is extracted from sources of artificial origin, purified, and then bottled. It is also worth noting that this type of liquid can be obtained in a private house if you arrange an individual hydro-extraction point and equip it with a good downhole filtration system. You can order the development and installation of filters on the website ovteh.ru. then you will receive pure moisture from the source directly through the faucet.

Rating of the best manufacturers

The best drinks are produced by the following companies:

  • Donat Mg;
  • Evian;
  • Stalmas;
  • fiuggi;
  • Aqua Minerale;
  • Nestle Pure Life;
  • Aquanics;
  • healthy water;
  • Legend of Baikal.

The above brands are chosen by most buyers. The popularity of models is due to the quality of products. Drinks of these brands have a pleasant taste, reasonable price, convenient form of release. Consumers note that after drinking water, they feel better, their mood rises, exacerbations pass faster. Which company is better to purchase goods will help determine the ratings below.

Classification by consumer properties

benefits of bottled water

In addition to the usual purified drinking, which is found everywhere in stores, there is also a canteen. It has an increased level of mineralization up to 1 gram per liter. There are practically no contraindications for daily consumption, but if you are hypertensive or have other chronic diseases of the cardiovascular or urinary systems, it is better to consult a specialist.

There are also medicinal table and medicinal drinks. They include an increased amount of minerals. They can not be used daily, it is permissible to use only for therapeutic purposes and as directed by a doctor.

Where does water help us and how?

If a person can do without food for several weeks, then the lack of water already on the second day threatens with dehydration. Drinking water is considered to be a universal solvent of nutrients. In fact, the functions of water in the human body are much wider:

  • regulation of body temperature;
  • softening and humidification of the air in the respiratory tract;
  • participation in the process of converting food into energy;
  • activation of nutrient absorption;
  • removal of toxins and waste.

Water is man's best friend

The latter property is used by nutritionists in weight correction: the correct use of pure water helps to get rid of extra pounds. Read more about it.

Ideal weight and healthy body

Control of the water balance in the body is essential for health and fitness. It is especially important to drink clean water during exercise and weight loss. Going in for sports, a person actively sweats, and as a result, loses more fluid. If any diet is used at the same time, it is necessary to control the daily water intake.

A normal amount of fluid in the body promotes metabolism, and, as a result, reduces the amount of excess fat. Of course, this principle works in conjunction with proper eating habits and physical activity.

Skin and hair care

Dehydration immediately affects the appearance: the skin dries, the hair grows dull. No wonder cosmetologists recommend drinking more pure non-carbonated water, especially in the summer.

Compliance with the drinking regimen gives a quick effect:

  • the body is cleansed of toxins, the skin acquires a good color;
  • the aging process slows down, the elasticity of the skin increases, the structure of the hair improves;
  • puffiness decreases.

Harmony and tranquility

Fluid deficiency also affects the mental state of a person: mood changes, headaches appear, depression develops. This is because harmful substances accumulate in the body, and there is not enough fluid to remove them. To avoid feeling unwell and maintain inner harmony, it is enough to drink 6–7 glasses of water a day: they will ensure a good metabolism and the removal of toxins.

Classification by ionic composition and useful properties

Depending on which ions are contained in larger quantities, water is distinguished:

  • bicarbonate — it reduces the acidity of the stomach, helps with heartburn and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • chloride — improves metabolic processes in the digestive tract;
  • sulfate — has a beneficial effect on the liver and gallbladder;
  • magnesium — has a positive effect on the heart;
  • sodium — normalizes blood pressure;
  • potassium — helps the kidneys and the cardiovascular system.

Is it possible to make living water at home?

We have long been accustomed to using home filters to purify tap water. Purification from harmful impurities improves the quality and taste of the liquid. But carbon filters are not the only way to clean. Freezing of water today is widespread and for good reason: scientists recognize thawed water (structured) as the cleanest and most useful water. If desired, everyone can get it at home.

Proven way:

  • double cleansing. Pour purified water into a plastic container and place in the freezer. The crust of ice formed on the surface is carefully removed and removed — all harmful substances are collected in it. Then we freeze the remaining liquid for ¾ of the remaining volume, remove the excess. We get ice for the preparation of melted “living” water.

We encourage readers to assess the quality and quantity of water they drink daily. If you are not taking enough fluid, start gradually replenishing it to a normal level. And do not forget that only pure drinking water benefits the body, do not replace it with juices, carbonated drinks, coffee and tea. Be healthy!

The benefits and harms of bottled water: is it safe to drink

what is added to bottled water

Quality products assume that the composition of the liquid is safer than that of the plumbing resource, since it does not contain harmful microorganisms, and the amount of additives is balanced. She is:

  • saturates the body with the required trace elements;
  • quenches thirst;
  • suitable for everyday drinking and cooking;
  • strengthens the immune system and has a positive effect on most systems.

A negative effect can only affect a few cases:

  • when using a low-quality product;
  • if you drink more than the norm every day (1.5–2.5 liters);
  • with individual intolerance to trace elements.

Testing Aqua Minerale water

Purified water from a centralized water supply source

Manufacturer: PK Aqualife LLC

The manufacturer on his website writes only about what soft water it is. But not a word about its production. We suspect that it, like Bon Aqua, is purified and then mineralized.

General mineralization 50–500 mg/l, potassium — 10 mg/l, calcium — 30 mg/l, magnesium — 20 mg/l, sulfates — 100 mg/l, chlorides 50 mg/l, bicarbonates — 200.

Good water, slightly sour, quenches thirst well, has some kind of dense taste, sweet, very tasty! This is how the testers described this water.

Truth and myths

There is an opinion that since the previous generation was content with only a water resource, then in our time you can simply drink moisture from the tap. This is not true, since over time its chemical composition has changed significantly, it has become more aggressive to bacteria, and therefore less suitable for humans.

Dispenser main desktop AquaPro 929CH/RO (cooling/heating)

Floor dispenser AquaPro 311 (empty, without cooling)

Another myth is that a drink of the highest category should not have a taste. In fact, almost any trace elements leave a slight aftertaste. It may be a bit salty, but it won’t hurt the quality.

Testing Vittel water

Natural drinking mineral water

Manufacturer: Nestle Waters Supply Est, France

Another French drink.

Natural mineral water without gas Vittel is born in the east of France, purified through the volcanic rock of the Vosges mountains, the period of passage through the rock lasts from 15 to 20 years. This is how the manufacturer describes the water on his website.

Mineralization 999 mg/l.

Either a fake, or the Urals do not understand the taste of pure water. They described it like this: dead water, empty water. They also wrote: melt water, a feeling of staleness. It’s hard to say what’s wrong, but I liked it less than the previous two.

This water is ranked last in terms of taste.

What is added to bottled water during production

what is bottled water

There is a widespread belief that in the manufacture of the liquid is not only enriched with minerals if necessary, but also treated with antibacterial drugs. If such studies are to be believed and antibiotics are to be feared, then one can switch to filtration of the water supply to be sure of the exact chemical and bacterial composition of the moisture.

What kind of water do we use

Not in all regions of our large country, water flows from the tap, which you can immediately drink. It depends not only on the environmental shutdown of a certain region, but also on the state of the water treatment system. Many people do various tricky operations to improve the quality of water. For example, someone can treat water with potassium permanganate, someone freezes and uses it after defrosting, and someone simply boils or filters. Not all of these techniques really help to improve the quality of tap water. When water boils, it loses many of its beneficial minerals and oxygen. You can drink such water, but you should understand that many useful compounds will be lost. You can also collect water and let it settle for a while. In this case, the liquid will lose chlorine, and some compounds may precipitate. But if your region does not have good water, then it is better not to resort to this method.

But with the help of special filters, you can easily purify water from unwanted impurities and compounds. Filtered water loses hardness and becomes pleasant to the taste. You can filter water using various jugs, manufacturers offer various cartridges that have certain properties. A filtration system can also be installed under the sink. In this case, it is better to install an additional faucet so that the filter resource is not wasted for drinking purposes. There is a third option for filters, which are a special nozzle on the tap.

Also, part of the population prefers to go to a certain natural source and collect a remedy to quench their thirst. These people mistakenly assume that such water will be much healthier than the one that flows from the tap. Such natural sources can contain a large number of harmful compounds, bacteria and microbes. So you risk ruining your health. Therefore, it is better to take a small amount of liquid from the source and analyze it.

Don’t forget about bottled water. To date, many manufacturers offer different types of bottled water, such a product can be both with gas and without, as well as have different tastes. Such a product is very convenient to take with you on the road or use at home if the tap water is of poor quality.

Requirements for bottled drinking water

Standards against which checks are made:

  • compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards — according to GOST, SanPiN and other standards;
  • packaging in plastic or glass containers that have undergone sterilization;
  • sale in retail stores, pharmacies without prescriptions for the purpose of consumption by ordinary customers;

  • the allowable percentage of additives and essences of natural origin is no more than 1%.

About products

As part of the rolling study of Roskachestvo in 2021, 58 samples of drinking water without gas, the most popular on the Russian market, were studied. Laboratory tests were carried out on 98 quality and safety indicators. The cost of products at the time of purchase ranged from 20 to 260 rubles.
The vast majority of goods are made in Russia, while the products of Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Norway, Finland, France are presented in the rolling study. According to the results of laboratory tests, the products of ten brands meet not only the requirements of current quality and safety standards, but also the leading requirements of the Roskachestvo standard. All these products, with the exception of water under the EVIAN trademark, are made in Russia, so manufacturers can apply for a Russian Quality Mark after passing the voluntary certification procedure.

In 2021 studied goods of six brands

of the previously studied, all Russian-made. This is non-carbonated drinking water packaged in plastic packages of 1.5 or 5 liters. The purchase price of 5‑liter packages is from 70 to 190 rubles, the cost of 1.5 liter water is 20 rubles per package. One of the products — Novoterskaya water — confirmed its right to the Quality Mark.
Russian quality system standard
The standard of the Russian Quality System has established for drinking water without gas, applying for the Russian Quality Mark, tougher (leading) requirements for the content of harmful and potentially hazardous chemicals, pesticides and some insecticides. Stricter requirements have been introduced for the smell of water, the phenolic index of its composition and the hydrogen index. In general, packaged drinking water, claiming the right to be labeled with the Russian Quality Mark, must meet the requirements of physiological usefulness for water of the highest category (with the exception of certain indicators). Products that meet the standards specified in the STO are entitled to apply for the Russian Quality Mark. The level of localization of production for the award of the Quality Mark must be at least 98%.

The requirements of the advanced Roskachestvo standard are not mandatory for manufacturers, however, products that do not meet the specified requirements cannot qualify for the Russian Quality Mark.
