At the same time, the price of the nov­el­ty at the start was 25% more than the Air­Pods 2 that were rel­e­vant at that time. In 2021, Air­Pods 3 came out, which out­ward­ly became sim­i­lar to a “plug”, but the noise reduc­tion func­tion was not added to them.

On Sep­tem­ber 7, Apple offi­cial­ly showed the updat­ed Air­Pods Pro 2. The big pre­sen­ta­tion of new devices began with head­phones, leav­ing the more inter­est­ing iPhone 14 to the pub­lic at the end of the event.

The head­phones received a new H2 audio chip, an improved noise reduc­tion sys­tem and an updat­ed hous­ing with a speak­er. The first ones appeared almost imme­di­ate­ly after the start of glob­al sales, but large retail­ers so far only accept pre-orders for Apple Air­Pods Pro 2. On the case of the Apple Air­Pods Pro 2022 head­phones, a touch part appeared, by click­ing on which you can adjust the sound vol­ume. The thing is quite prac­ti­cal, since before this you had to get a smart­phone or use the voice assis­tant Siri. The sen­sor is locat­ed on the bot­tom of the head­phones, so when you touch the case, the user’s fin­ger imme­di­ate­ly lies on the desired area. When the vol­ume is changed, a low noti­fi­ca­tion sound is heard from the ear­piece.

Spatial Audio

The Apple Air­Pods Pro 2 has slight­ly changed the way spa­tial audio works. Now this func­tion works in fixed and non-fixed modes. In the first case, the sound becomes more volu­mi­nous and the effect of pres­ence is cre­at­ed. In the sec­ond mode, the head­phones syn­chro­nize the posi­tion of the user’s head and “car­ry” the sound in the head­phones in dif­fer­ent direc­tions. For exam­ple, after turn­ing from the smart­phone screen to the right, the sound in the left ear­piece will increase, and in the oth­er, on the con­trary, it will become qui­eter.

Case with speaker

The Apple Air­Pods Pro 2 case has a minia­ture speak­er to which you can send an audio sig­nal in case of loss. A sim­i­lar sys­tem is imple­ment­ed in Apple tags called AirTag.

Adjustable noise reduction system and “transparency”

The orig­i­nal Apple Air­Pods Pro have a noise can­cel­ing sys­tem that lim­its unwant­ed sounds from the sur­round­ing area. It works like this:

1. The micro­phone inside the ear­piece con­stant­ly picks up extra­ne­ous sounds and trans­mits them to the device’s proces­sor;
2. The proces­sor cre­ates sound waves that block out noise and sends them to the speak­er of the ear­phone (while it retains the sounds of speech or music played from the phone).

Thus, extra­ne­ous sounds sim­ply do not have time to reach the user. In this case, the noise reduc­tion mode can be either turned on or off.

The Air­Pods Pro 2 fea­tures a new H2 proces­sor that improves noise can­cel­la­tion over the pre­vi­ous mod­el. The sec­ond ver­sion of Air­Pods Pro can scan sound from micro­phones faster and cut unwant­ed sounds bet­ter.

Bet­ter in Air­Pods Pro 2, the “trans­paren­cy” mode also began to work. In it, the head­phone proces­sor cuts off “garbage” sounds like the noise of a per­fo­ra­tor, but does not damp­en use­ful ones (for exam­ple, the interlocutor’s speech). This func­tion is used in cas­es where, in addi­tion to music, you need to hear what is hap­pen­ing around. Curi­ous­ly, too loud exter­nal sounds in the “trans­paren­cy” mode are auto­mat­i­cal­ly “aver­aged” so as not to fright­en the Air­Pods Pro 2 user with noise.

Apple Air­Pods Pro 2 turned out to be inter­est­ing, but not break­through in tech­nol­o­gy. Head­phones nev­er got the oppor­tu­ni­ty to work with the ALAC codec, which could take them to a new lev­el of sound repro­duc­tion.

The mod­el, of course, has become more con­ve­nient due to the vol­ume switch sen­sor. Users will also be inter­est­ed in the abil­i­ty to fine-tune the noise reduc­tion and sur­round sound modes.
