A screw juicer is a household appliance for the kitchen, designed to squeeze “clean” juice with a minimum amount of pulp from vegetables, berries and herbs. The operation of the unit in question takes place on the principle of an electric meat grinder: a spiral auger is installed inside the juicer, which scrolls the products, turning them into a state of gruel, and squeezes the juice through a sieve to filter large particles due to pressure.

This household appliance is perfect for people who monitor their health and nutrition. After all, the benefits of freshly squeezed juices are that they fill the body with energy, vitamins, help prolong beauty and youth, quench thirst and even hunger.

The advantages of screw juicers are in the low noise level (40 dB), and also in the fact that the juice is squeezed out at low speeds (50–65 rpm) and therefore does not oxidize, and therefore all valuable microelements and vitamins are preserved.

There are two types of auger juicers:

Horizontal They have a classic look, outwardly resembling a meat grinder. When using this juicer, preliminary preparation of vegetables and fruits is required (cutting into small pieces) and direct participation in the cooking process (manual “pusher”). They are considered more durable — the electric motor is separated from the auger, which prevents the juice from flowing into the motor, thereby extending the life of the unit;
vertical The auger is located vertically, so the technique itself captures the ingredients, and the use of a pusher is required only when necessary. They have a higher processing speed (200–500 W), unlike horizontal ones (200–300 W). The device takes up less space on the working surface, but these representatives are usually higher in height.

We present to your attention the rating of auger juicers in 2022, which is compiled on the basis of technical characteristics and customer reviews on the Internet.

Atvel PowerTwist J3. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The efficient and versatile Atvel PowerTwist J3 horizontal juicer produces up to 90% juice from any vegetable or fruit. The seven-way auger and design allow you to get a rich and tasty high-density drink without sediment and foam, even from whimsical products, such as celery and wheatgrass. Cold pressing technology contributes to the complete preservation of minerals, vitamins and enzymes in the finished juice.

Low power consumption of 150 W allows you to save on electricity. The quality of the juicer is as efficient as possible — the DC motor and worm-type gearbox acting in conjunction provide high torque for processing products, equivalent to a classical device with a power of more than 1500 watts.

Atvel PowerTwist J3 is made of durable, high-quality and environmentally friendly materials that do not emit harmful substances. A small filling opening ensures the safety of using the juicer: even the hand of a small child cannot get inside the device and, therefore, on the auger. Thanks to the quiet operation of the device (less than 60 dB), you can make juice at any time of the day or night.

Expanding the functionality of the Atvel PowerTwist J3 juicer is not difficult: you can purchase branded additional attachments that will turn it into a full-fledged meat grinder or electric grater.

The device is controlled by a single button (on and off) located on the case. The device is effortlessly disassembled (all parts are removable) and washed thanks to a special double-sided brush included in the kit. The juicer has a lightweight design and compactness, which will allow you to carry it if necessary and place it on small countertops.

Main characteristics

Power 150 W
Turnovers 95 rpm
Time of continuous work 20 minutes
Noise level no more than 60 dB
Juice tank volume 0.7 l
Cake tank volume 1.3 l
Additional functions auto power off, network overload protection

Pros and cons

Smooth start of the engine, easy to assemble, disassemble and wash, quiet operation, productive, multifunctional (the ability to change the nozzles for a meat grinder and an electric grater), safe, juicing from “complex” products, compactness and lightness, made of environmentally friendly materials, full preservation of vitamins in finished product

1. Kitfort KT-1111

Kitfort KT-1111.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
Kitfort KT-1111. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The small-sized model, according to the assembly principle, resembles an electric meat grinder. The size of the loading opening is not very large (48 × 53 mm), which may seem like a minus — it will not be possible to use large pieces of food, cutting into smaller pieces will be required. The kit includes a pusher, which will avoid contact of fingers with moving parts of the device. To protect against slipping on the working surface, the model has rubberized legs.

The low-speed spin technology (80–100 rpm) is used, there is only one speed of operation, but there is a “Reverse” mode — a reverse stroke, which is useful if, for example, the screw is jammed or the juicer needs to be cleaned without disassembling it. For juice and pulp there are special plastic containers with a volume of 600 ml and 570 ml, and there is also a separator for separating the foam. It is also possible to use your own container, but in this case its height should not exceed 10 cm.

It is easy to take care of the device: it is disassembled in one movement, the parts are easy to clean, as they are made of plastic. A brush is included for cleaning the metal filter.

The automatic shutdown system interrupts the operation of the juicer in case of overheating of the motor. The manufacturer does not advise exceeding the recommended continuous use time, which is 15 minutes. The pluses, according to consumer reviews, include the almost silent operation of this model.

Of the minuses, we can distinguish that the case is made of plastic. This criterion may scare off a potential buyer, because plastic is not considered a durable material for everyone, more often stainless steel models are preferred.

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 150 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 600 ml/570 ml
Housing material plastic
The weight 3.7 kg

Pros and cons

Reversible, easy cleaning, quiet operation
Narrow neck, unreliable design (plastic case, which does not inspire confidence in quality, seems flimsy)

Wilfa SJ1B-500. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The electronically controlled Wilfa SJ1B-500 juicer is distinguished not only by its stylish appearance, but also by the presence of a wide loading opening (50 × 60 mm), which will save you unnecessary trouble — there is no need to cut the fruits into small pieces to load them into the device. This model has an automatic pulp ejection system, which helps to reduce the amount of fibers entering the juice. Of the differences from other juicers — small collection tanks for juice and cake (50 liters each).

The model is good because the manufacturer has provided in it a built-in “drop-stop” system that does not allow the remnants of a freshly squeezed drink to spill onto the kitchen surfaces, as well as to fill in a running engine. Of the additional functionality, there is a turbo mode and reverse. The model is capable of squeezing juice from both hard and soft fruits, and there is a special ring to adjust the squeezing of a particular product.

The kit includes a cleaning brush, a removable juice tank, a pusher and a pulp tray. The rotation speed is 80 rpm — thanks to this screw speed, the engine runs quietly (the volume of the device does not exceed 75 dB). The case is made of plastic, which can be attributed to a disadvantage, since steel models inspire more confidence by increasing the life of the device.

Main characteristics

Control type electronic
Power 150 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 500 ml/500 ml
Housing material plastic
The weight 5.5 kg

Pros and cons

Drip-stop system, adjustment for squeezing products of various hardness and softness
Small volume of tanks (according to customer reviews), plastic case

3. New Omra OM-2820‑E

New Omra OM-2820-E.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
New Omra OM-2820‑E. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The model is more professional and suitable for processing large volumes of vegetables and fruits. The diameter of the funnel (26 cm) and the width of the loading opening (75 mm) allow you to load whole fruits. The pusher for more convenient loading of products is included in the package. The body and mesh are made of stainless steel. If desired, the device can be retrofitted with a meat grinder attachment (not included in the kit, purchased separately).

Professional juicer for vegetables and fruits is equipped with a gearbox for more power (400 W), has protection against overloads and accidental activation. Of the minuses — only one speed of operation (90 rpm), the absence of containers for juice and cake (you will need your own container), as well as a weight of 10 kilograms, which can cause inconvenience when operating in an apartment.

The model is multifunctional — in addition to a natural drink, you can produce vegetable and fruit purees, as well as process greens, various hard fruits and nuts, regardless of their ripeness. According to the manufacturer, the device can process 400 kg of vegetables or fruits per hour, which is undoubtedly an advantage when choosing an auger juicer.

Main characteristics

Control type electric
Power 400 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake missing
Housing material aluminium, stainless steel, plastic
The weight 11.8 kg

Pros and cons

Ideal for high volumes (400 kg/h processing), high quality materials and workmanship
Heavy weight, no capacity for juice and cake

Hyundai HY-JS4322. Photo: yandex.market.ru

A modern silent auger-type juicer, which managed to combine a huge number of significant advantages. One speed of rotation of the screw (48 rpm) is provided. The design itself consists of a motor (220 W), a separator bowl, a filter, an auger, a top cover with a loading chute and a pusher. Of the useful functions: a reverse, which ensures the reverse movement of the mechanism, and a drop-stop system to keep the work surface clean.

The kit includes a special brush for quick cleaning, as well as a useful device — an apple cutter (a manual device for cutting apples into slices). The neck is not the widest (50 mm), preliminary preparation of large fruits will be required.

Mechanical control (power button, stop and reverse), and there are also two transparent liter containers designed for separate intake of juice and pulp. The maximum continuous operation time is 15 minutes, then it is required to stop the device for 30 minutes (as recommended by the manufacturer).

Hyundai HY-JS4322 is an excellent representative in terms of price-quality ratio. Unfortunately, there is no additional mesh for filtering the drink from the cake, but the device does an excellent job with the tasks: the waste is dry, and the juice is squeezed as much as possible without pulp.

The device has a stable housing made of stainless steel with anti-slip feet. The main parts are also made of stainless steel (body, mesh). The remaining components are plastic, but no less durable (loading chute, pusher).

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 220 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 1000/1000 ml
Housing material stainless steel
The weight 3 kg

Narrow neck, no filter mesh

2. KING MIX GP-20S

KING MIX GP-20S.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
KING MIX GP-20S. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The King Mix GP-20S is a stylish model with a stainless steel body that ensures durability and resistance to external influences. The juicer motor reducer is equipped with a metal gear, which increases the duration of the device (continuous operation time — 30 minutes). The model has an extended neck with a diameter of 80 mm, which allows you to load products without prior preparation or with minimal cutting.

Thanks to a powerful motor (250 W) and a vertical auger speed of up to 50 rpm, the juicer does an excellent job of extracting juice from both hard and soft foods. Of the features: the presence of two grids for squeezing juice, which will allow you to get a homogeneous juice or smooth puree.
The juicer is also easy to assemble and easy to clean, and it comes with a cleaning brush.

Of the minuses: the lack of spare parts for sale on the official website of the brand, in the event of a breakdown of parts or replacement of seals, it will be difficult to repair the unit on your own. And also the weight — this model is quite weighty (9.2 kg).

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 250 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 500 ml/500 ml
Housing material aluminium, stainless steel, plastic
The weight 9.2 kg

Pros and cons

Wide feed opening, possibility of making juice and puree (two grids)
Pretty heavy, lack of spare parts on the official website

3. Oberhof Drucken Q‑12

Oberhof Drucken Q-12.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
Oberhof Drucken Q‑12. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The juicer has an auger (48 rpm), made of highly durable Ultem plastic, which is resistant to the development of bacteria and does not absorb odors. During operation, the juicer imitates manual extraction, so the products do not oxidize, and all vitamins and microelements are preserved in the finished drink.

The model has a valve for the exit of cake with a special modernized design, so the pulp does not splash, but smoothly enters the container (500 ml). The juice extractor processes any products: both soft, and firm. A powerful 400 W motor, manufactured using a special technology, guarantees high quality pressing of soft fruits and vegetables, hard root crops and even nuts.

The juicer consists of structural elements that are made of copper and special materials that are not subject to oxidation. Therefore, the device will last for a long time — at least 5 years according to the manufacturer.

You don’t have to worry about the safety of operation: if the elements are installed incorrectly, the device will not turn on, and if used for a long time, it will not overheat, since there is an automatic shutdown. Of the minuses, buyers highlight the too noisy operation of the juicer (the declared noise level is 40–60 dB), as well as the heavy weight of 8.3 kilograms.

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 400 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 500 ml/500 ml
Housing material plastic/stainless steel
The weight 8.35 kg

Pros and cons

Build quality, stylish design, automatic shutdown in case of overheating
Noisy work, considerable weight

4. Kitfort KT-1122

Kitfort KT-1122.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
Kitfort KT-1122. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Screw juicer Kitfort KT-1122 (power 200 W) works on cold pressing technology. Its working element rotates at a speed of 68 revolutions per minute to avoid heating and oxidation of the product. At the same time, vitamins, amino acids, minerals and other useful substances are preserved.

The device has a spiral screw press, which captures vegetables, fruits and herbs well. It crushes even dense fruits, and then pushes them through the filter — it takes a few seconds to separate the juice from the cake.

Thanks to the “stop-drop” system, the table on which the device stands will remain clean. The body is made of strong and durable stainless steel. There are rubber feet for added stability. The set includes two small tanks: for juice (600 ml) and waste (600 ml).

Of the pluses, it is worth highlighting that the model is light (3.9 kg) — this allows you to move it easily if necessary. The device is easy to assemble and wash. According to customer reviews, the disadvantages of the model include the noisy operation of the device (noise level 74 dB), as well as a narrow loading chute of 50 mm, which requires preliminary preparation of the fruit.

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 200 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 600 ml/600 ml
Housing material stainless steel
The weight 3.9 kg

Pros and cons

Light weight, easy to assemble and wash, maximum spin (dry cake output)
Narrow neck, noisy in operation

1. Lexen Healthy Juicer Manual GP27‑B

Lexen Healthy Juicer Manual GP27-B. Photo: yandex.market.ru
Lexen Healthy Juicer Manual GP27‑B. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Lexen Healthy Juicer GP27 is a lightweight (1 kg) manual mobile juicer that does not require electricity. Outwardly, the device looks like a meat grinder familiar to everyone with a handle for rotation, but without an electric drive. Made of metal and plastic — due to this it combines strength and low cost.

The difference between the model is that the auger is made with a stainless steel tip, and not nylon (as a rule). This improves both the performance and durability of the instrument.

Manual juicers are often much easier to clean than their electric counterparts due to the multiple dismantling parts. The device does not have metal cutting blades with small holes, from which it is necessary to clean the fruit fibers with a brush. Excess pulp is gently ejected from the front cover for easy disposal. The base of the case is equipped with a suction cup for attaching the device to any work surface.

As a disadvantage, one can cite low productivity and the absence of containers for liquid and cake. Recycling significant volumes will require a large amount of time compared to electrical competitors.

Main characteristics

Control type manual
Power missing
Volumes of containers for juice/cake missing
Housing material metal, plastic
The weight 1 kg

Pros and cons

Light weight, easy to carry, easy to assemble and wash
No containers, not suitable for a large number of workpieces

2. “Motor Sich SBC‑1”

“Motor Sich SBCh‑1”. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The manual auger juicer “Motor Sich” is an indispensable tool for preserving and harvesting for the winter and processing a large number of fruits (3 kg without filter cleaning), both soft (for example, tomatoes) and hard. The mechanism of a manual auger juicer is designed as follows: during the rotation of the screw shaft, the juice is squeezed out of the crushed mass due to pressure, then the juice is divided into cake, which automatically comes out of a special hole.

The design of the juicer is equipped with a mechanism for controlling the intensity of the juice output and a protective cover that prevents splashing. The model is silent due to the absence of an electric drive.

There is a difference from models with an electric drive — the device has no restrictions on the operating time, and the performance depends directly on the consumer. The device is simply disassembled and assembled, and the kit comes with a deep round bowl for laying fruits. Quite stable, as it is installed on the work surface and does not slip due to its weight (3.7 kg) and rubberized mount.

The unlimited service life of the juicer is provided by cast iron — a durable and wear-resistant material. The disadvantages include the lack of bowls for juice and cake (additional costs for the purchase of containers will be required). Also, according to customer reviews, pre-treatment of large fruits is needed.

Main characteristics

Control type manual
Power missing
Volumes of containers for juice/cake missing
Housing material cast iron, plastic
The weight 3.7 kg

Pros and cons

Durability (case material), noiselessness
No containers for juice/waste, pre-cutting vegetables and fruits

3. Augustin Welz AW-2103

Augustin Welz AW-2103.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
Augustin Welz AW-2103. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Manual auger juicer Augustin Welz AW-2103 is ideal for home use. The machine can be used anywhere as there is no need to connect to a network. The model can squeeze juice from almost any vegetable and fruit, as well as from deciduous vegetables, herbs and herbaceous plants, which are not easy to squeeze in devices with a centrifuge. The model has few parts, so it is easy to disassemble and reassemble (they can also be washed in a dishwasher).

The model is equipped with a spiral auger that runs at low speed and automatically separates the cake, pulp and bones. Thanks to the manual control, the noise level remains at a low level. The mouth is not wide (50 mm), which entails the preliminary preparation of products.

The juicer is light (1.5 kg), as it is made of plastic that can withstand mechanical stress and not deform, and also does not absorb foreign odors. The device comes complete with a special durable pusher, with which the use of the device becomes more comfortable. Also in the package there is a glass (500 ml) with a strainer for additional filtration and a container (500 ml) for the cake remaining as a result of processing.

The disadvantages include that the model is not suitable for vegetables and fruits with a low fiber content, namely grapes, guava, tomatoes, since when manually squeezing such products, it will not be possible to squeeze juice from such products, but only grind them into a puree.

Main characteristics

Control type manual
Power missing
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 500/500 ml
Housing material plastic

At the bottom of the device there is a device for limiting the length of the cord.

The mouth and the width of the feed chute (50 mm) are rather narrow — pre-cutting of the products is required. There is a valve for shutting off the juice and a reverse function. The device operates at low speed (45 rpm), due to which the nutritional elements of the drink are not destroyed. The juicer comes with 900 ml and 1200 ml juice and pulp containers.

The time of continuous operation, according to the manufacturer, is 15 minutes. In turn, automatic blocking is responsible for the safety of use in case of incorrect assembly and overload. This representative has a reverse function, which will allow the stuck pieces of fruit to scroll again and squeeze the juice again.

The principle of operation, like most representatives, is cold pressing at a screw speed of 70 rpm. The neck is small in width (40 mm), so preliminary preparation of large fruits will be required.

Also, the device is equipped with a “drop-stop” system. Suction cups in the lower part of the body ensure the stability of the device on the surface. The kit also includes a cleaning brush, which is very convenient to wash parts (according to consumer reviews). One of the advantages is the presence of a nozzle for making sorbet — ideal for lovers of homemade berry ice cream.

The presented option will help to prepare fresh from various berries, fruits, vegetables and herbs. The width of the mouth (75 mm) makes it possible to load whole and unpeeled and unpeeled fruits without prior preparation.

The control panel is represented by only one switch to turn on the device and activate the reverse. The model is equipped with a special “drop-stop” system. There is a small cap on the drain spout that prevents the juice from flooding the work surface.

The base of the juicer is complemented by rubberized legs, with the help of which the device is stably located on any surface. Also, the device has an automatic shutdown mechanism in case of overheating. The device comes with two liter tanks with handles: for drink and collection of cake, as well as a brush for cleaning the filter.

Of the advantages, it is worth highlighting the ease of assembly of the presented juicer, since, according to customer reviews, the parts are marked with dots for comfortable assembly. The disadvantages include the fact that there are parts that are hard to reach for washing, for example, a waste ejection hole, but with the help of the brush in the kit you can cope with this task.

The 150W Cecotec Juice & Live 3000 EasyClean juicer extracts up to 90% juice from berries, fruits and vegetables. Thanks to the technology of cold pressing at a slow speed (50 rpm), the temperature caused by the pressure at the moment of pressing does not exceed 40°. The device is designed to prepare juices, smoothies, and nuts and berries can also be added as ingredients.

The non-reverse juicer separates the juice from the pulp with the help of the innovative EasyClean filter. It is easily cleaned under running water without the need for additional brushes. To prevent splashing of juice, the spout of the device is equipped with a tip. All parts of the model can be easily disassembled and cleaned under running water or in a dishwasher.

The built-in protection system against overheating and unintentional switching on reduces the risk of damage to the device. The set includes glasses for juice and cake with volumes of 800 ml, there is no mesh for additional filtering of drinks. The juicer is made of environmentally friendly and durable tritan (a kind of plastic), which does not absorb odors and is characterized by increased strength and resistance to high temperatures. According to customer reviews, the waste exit hole is often clogged during operation, which should be considered when choosing.

1. LINNBERG ABC

LINNBERG ABC.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
LINNBERG ABC. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Slow spin (55 rpm) of this model allows you to save all the valuable properties of any fruit or vegetable. The juicer is easy to assemble and disassemble, and all working parts are removed from it. It also provides the possibility of express cleaning of the device — for this you need to pour a few glasses of water into the juicer and turn on the device.

Of the interesting features: a smart-lid that will help in the preparation of mixed drinks — you need to install the lid and turn on the device — the juice will mix on its own, and an already homogeneous mixed drink will enter the glass. The valve also keeps the work surface clean and serves as an “anti-drip”. The power of the device is 150 W, there are also tanks for juice and waste, the volume of which is 1000 ml each.

In order to squeeze the maximum amount of juice out of the product, the Pulp Control system is installed at the exit of the pulp from the juicer. It controls the degree of pressing, reducing the moisture content of the cake. There is also a reverse function for quick cleaning and recycling of waste for more juice.

Of the minuses: like most auger juicers, the waste outlet is clogged, which causes discomfort when cleaning the device.

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 150 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 1000/1000 ml
Housing material plastic, stainless steel
The weight 4.55 kg

Pros and cons

The presence of a smart cover for the mix, self-cleaning function
Requires additional cleaning of the pulp outlet, no additional screen for filtering

2. ENDEVER Sigma-92

ENDEVER Sigma-92. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The ENDEVER vertical auger juicer is equipped with a 1000 ml glass direct juice supply system, which is included in the kit. In addition, there is a “drop-stop” system from accidental spilling of the drink on the work surface. The collection of the pulp takes place automatically during the pressing process, where the processed cake enters the designated 800 ml tank.

A fairly powerful machine (350 W) with a stainless steel filter and a spin speed of 60 rpm. The package also includes a loading tray and a cleaning brush, and a reverse function is provided for a thorough wringing. The body of the model is made of stainless steel, the bottom is reinforced with rubberized legs.

Of the advantages: a built-in filter for juice and a round wide neck (75 mm) that can accommodate whole fruits. Also, consumers who have had time to evaluate the kitchen assistant indicate that the juicer has excellent performance, no vibration and unnecessary unpleasant noises in operation, and protection against turning on when the device is not assembled correctly.

The disadvantages include the fact that the internal parts of the device are plastic (only the screw, the metal rod) — this can increase the chances of breakage in case of improper operation, and the device heats up during long work.

Main characteristics

Control type mechanical
Power 350 W
Volumes of containers for juice/cake 1000/800 ml
Housing material stainless steel
The weight 3.9 kg

Pros and cons

Stainless steel body, high spin quality, quiet operation
Plastic internal parts, heat during operation

3. REDMOND RJ-912S

REDMOND RJ-912S.  Photo: yandex.market.ru
REDMOND RJ-912S. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The Redmond RJ-912S Juicer is a 580 W auger model designed to get fresh juice from hard vegetables, fibrous greens and soft fruits. Feature of this model in multifunctional character, namely grinding of ingredients for the subsequent preparation.

The touch control panel is designed to instantly switch between the operating modes: Hard, Medium, Soft, Mix, Vegetables, Smoothies, Grater/Slicer, Pomegranate and Cleaning. The available programs differ mainly in terms of power (from 200 to 580 W). There is also a reverse function to extract unprocessed pieces and squeeze out the leftovers as much as possible. If overheating occurs, the device automatically shuts down.

The diameter of the loading opening is 75 mm, so the fruit can be put whole without cutting. The juice collection tank (1000 ml) is equipped with a graduated scale, but if necessary, the drink can be poured into its container no more than 17.5 cm high. Due to the anti-drip system, your kitchen will always be clean.

The container for collecting the cake is a plastic cup with a volume of 700 ml. The container is removable so it can be easily emptied as it fills up. According to reviews, this model has an ideal spin — the pulp at the exit is completely dry, all the juice remains in the container.

There is a mesh for additional filtering of juice from pulp, but the self-cleaning function leaves much to be desired — the device is washed with water, but for more thorough cleaning, user intervention is required. According to customer reviews, the model has large dimensions, which can cause discomfort when working in a small kitchen or in another room.

Main characteristics

Control type sensory

How to choose an auger juicer

To purchase a suitable device, you need to familiarize yourself with the nuances of how to choose an auger juicer for your home. There are several parameters to consider when buying.

Power

The optimal power range for each product must be different so that the product does not turn into a puree, but into a rich juice. For example, for vegetables, a power of 350–600 W is suitable, and for fruits and berries — 200–500 W. If the model has the ability to adjust the speed, the device can be more powerful.

Number of screws

In most cases, one auger will be enough for users, besides, most of the juicers on the market are single augers. If the main goal is to squeeze juice from hard and fibrous vegetables and fruits, it is better to look at models with two augers.

Additional functions

“Drop-stop”, automatic ejection of cake, reverse — today almost every auger juicer has these functions. It is better to pay attention to models with the following functions: protection against accidental inclusion / overload, the possibility and availability of nozzles for making puree, ice cream and smoothies.

Manufacturer

Perhaps not the most significant, but not the last criterion for choosing a kitchen assistant. European companies have weight on the market, which you should pay attention to when choosing a device. Accordingly, do not forget about the price-quality ratio. If the goal is to purchase a device of a similar level in quality, but at a more attractive price, you should take a closer look at domestic representatives of such devices.

Expert review of auger juicers

They share their personal experience on the use and selection of auger juicers Dmitry KiselevProduct Manager at Avax, and Anton RyazantsevHead of the Internet project of the CVT Group of Companies:

Dmitry Kiselev:

“Auger juicers have a lot of advantages:

  • Live Juice — All minerals and enzymes are retained, just as much as in the raw ingredients. For example, juice from an auger juicer has 42% more vitamin C, 62% more vitamin A, and 3 times more calcium than juice from a centrifugal machine. That is, you get not just a delicious drink, but also a real vitamin bomb;
  • Juices keep longer because they don’t oxidize. You can immediately squeeze a large amount of juice and store it in the refrigerator in a sterile container, take it with you to work, study or the gym;
  • Texture — the juice is homogeneous and dense, without sediment, the taste is brighter, there is a minimum of foam on the surface;
  • Efficiency — it’s sad when you have to throw out a huge amount of still juicy pulp, right? But screw juicers will not make you sad, because the cake turns out to be almost dry — only fibers are sent to the trash, and all the benefits and juice remain in the glass;
  • Noiselessness — auger juicer is suitable for those juice lovers who wake up early and are afraid to wake up loved ones (noise less than 40 dB);

In addition, auger juicers allow you to prepare not only juice, but also make vegetable milk from sprouted wheat and nuts (nut paste, which is obtained when preparing milk, can also be used and used in the form of a spread) and sorbet from frozen fruits.

In addition to juices, you can make vegetable cutlets from cake, for example, from carrots, beets or pumpkins, and also use it as a spread (in the common people, “spread” on a sandwich).

Anton Ryazantsev:

“My friends gave me a screw juicer. With her, I felt the difference between just eating an apple or drinking a glass of natural apple juice. Enjoyed the fullness of the taste of the juice. However, such a device requires a clear understanding of its capabilities and desires, in my case, this is not quite a hit in needs. For making freshly squeezed juice once a month, an auger juicer will obviously not simplify the process: it will rather load the average juice lover. If people are really focused on drinking fresh juices, follow a special diet and make voluminous preparations, then such a device will be just right.

An auger juicer is worth taking if there is a need to squeeze juice from various products: vegetables, grapes with stones, or even nuts. To extract juice from herbs and nuts, you will need a more expensive juicer with a very small strainer in the set. Most likely, it will be a horizontal loading machine with a low number of revolutions, since it is more difficult to extract juice from strong and non-watery products. If celery juice or almond milk is not in your diet, then you can choose a simpler and cheaper model.

Prices for auger juicers in Russia

About the state of the screw juicer market and key players tells Dmitry Kiselevproduct manager of Avax company:

“If we talk about the state of the market for auger juicers, then since the end of 2021 a trend has emerged on it — units have appeared at affordable prices. Previously, this category was limited mainly to a few brands with a price tag of 50 thousand rubles or more.

Budget segment The total price range starts from 2 to 20 thousand rubles. There may be complaints about the build quality and performance due to savings on components;
Mid-price segment The spread in price is from 3 to 25 thousand rubles. The main players (they have the largest number of models in different price segments) of the market are several brands: Scarlett, Kitfort, Redmond;
Premium segment In this segment, the cost of juicers starts from 25 thousand rubles, and the average cost in the market is 50,000 rubles. The key players are: Kenwood, Bork and OBERHOF.

In our opinion, you need to choose a juicer from the middle price segment. As a rule, they are on the same level in quality as expensive models, but you don’t have to overpay for a promoted brand. First of all, you need to look at the technical characteristics and compare them.

Popular questions and answers

Experts Dmitry Kiselev and Anton Ryazantsev tell what to look for when choosing a screw juicer in order to save on purchase and correctly calculate the power of the device.

What types of juicers are there?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“There are three types of juicers:

•Auger;
• Centrifugal;
•For citrus fruits.

Centrifugal juicers allow you to get juice from fruits and berries, citrus juicers are designed, surprisingly, for citrus fruits, and auger juicers are universal and make juice from a wide variety of products, up to coarse greens — it all depends on the power and design features of a particular model. .

How can you save money on buying an auger juicer?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“Saving on the purchase of a juicer is not worth it. It is better to approach the choice of the device wisely and think about how the device will help save money in the future. For example, on electricity, you should choose models that have lower power consumption, but the quality of work does not suffer. This is possible in models where the manufacturer has thought through this moment: for example, it has provided high efficiency at low energy costs due to the design of the engine.

You can also save on the multifunctionality of the device: there are models of juicers for which various nozzles are provided, for example, a meat grinder and a vegetable cutter. You also need to pay attention to the fact that these accessories turn the device into a full-fledged meat grinder and vegetable cutter, because some manufacturers save on additional equipment, because of which the quality suffers.”

Anton Ryazantsev:

“Freshly squeezed juice is a product without heat treatment, and its preparation requires maximum safety for the consumer. The low price of a juicer most likely indicates the low quality of the materials from which it is made. At worst, the money savings are more than offset by the plastic aftertaste.

Some manufacturers make screw shafts and strainers from Ultem. This super plastic is one of the safest in the food industry. But so far, such devices are rare and cost an order of magnitude more expensive than juicers made of stainless steel or plastic of a lower order.

Therefore, I do not recommend saving on the quality of materials and components. A good way to save money is to monitor prices and wait for promotions and discounts from manufacturers or online stores.”

What is the difference between a vertical auger juicer and a horizontal one?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“There are two types of auger juicers:

• Vertical;
• Horizontal.

Vertical models are more bulky, their auger is shorter, and therefore the efficiency is lower — they squeeze less juice. In vertical chambers, the juice extraction chamber is larger than in horizontal ones — the juice comes into contact with air more and oxidizes, therefore, many useful substances are lost. Vertical juicers have a larger feed opening, but not so much that the food does not have to be cut, but safety suffers — you can injure your fingers when pushing a fruit or vegetable to the auger. Horizontal ones usually don’t have this problem, because the feed opening is smaller and the mouth is higher.”

What is the working principle of screw juicers?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“The auger juicer works on the principle of an electric meat grinder: the products enter the auger through the feed opening, which crushes them, then the ground vegetables and fruits are filtered through a special mesh under the pressure of the auger. The filtered juice enters the juice tank, and the pulp goes into the pulp tank.

This technology of squeezing juice is also called “cold squeezing”, because fruits, berries and vegetables do not heat up during such processing, so the juice does not oxidize and much more useful substances are retained in it.”

Can an auger juicer grind nuts?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“You can grind nuts in a screw juicer. The main thing is not to choose too hard nuts. But in general, it all depends on the strength of a particular model of juicer. Nuts are not for every one of them.”

Anton Ryazantsev:

“Yes, and nuts, and grapes with stones. Top-loading juicers do this better, but soft fruit and vegetables are often made into very thick juices or purées.”

How to correctly calculate the required power of a screw juicer?

Anton Ryazantsev:

“Auger juicer is suitable for daily use and for making juice for future use. But in each of the processes there are important nuances. Juices and purees squeezed with the help of an auger are well suited for canning, because they do not undergo accelerated oxidation during the process. The auger runs slower (average 50–65 rpm) than centrifugal models (10,000 rpm): harvesting large volumes will take a long time. But such an extraction gives the best result: at low speeds, the juice is squeezed out much more strongly, and the quality of the drink itself is higher.
Centrifugal juicers are more powerful than screw juicers: the former can accelerate the engine to 1000 watts, while the latter usually have a power limit of no more than 150 watts.

Also, screw devices are much quieter than centrifugal ones (40 dB versus 80 dB). With an increase in power, there is a loss of fluid and an increase in sound: this is affected by the number of revolutions per minute — the more they are, the louder the process and less liquid has time to wring out. Power and speed indicators directly affect the price of the goods.

The power of the juicer has decreased: what is the reason?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“This is a rather rare situation, usually juicers work out the entire period set by the manufacturer. Reasons for performance degradation can be as follows:

• Worn motor brushes. Solution: replacement of motor brushes;

• Bearing grease has run out. Solution: Lubricate the bearing.

Anton Ryazantsev:

“The main reason is the wear of parts:

• “Flew” bearing, which is connected to the screw shaft;

• The motor has overheated due to prolonged load on it.

If the juicer was not used often, but the motor power has decreased, most likely the cause of the malfunction is the wrong choice of the device: they bought it for making juice from fruits, and began to squeeze juice from herbs. The load on the engine has increased, but he is not disposed to this.

When should I buy a multi-speed auger juicer?

Anton Ryazantsev:

“If you want to create puree-like dishes, including juices of different consistency. The slower the auger rotates, the more the pulp is pressed and squeezed out: the output is almost dry cake. At a higher speed, you can simultaneously get blanks for different dishes: when working with tomatoes, juice flows out of one spout, wet cake is separated from the other, which is perfect, for example, for adjika.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of auger juicers?

Anton Ryazantsev:

“The advantages of auger juicers are as follows:

1. The juice is obtained without oxidation and more natural, because during the extraction it does not heat up and does not enter into an oxygen reaction, as in a centrifugal juicer;

2. One device can process products of different consistency: from soft fruits to nuts;

3. Low noise level during operation (35–40 dB);

4. Variety of functions:

• A closed damper allows you to mix juices, squeezing each product separately (for example, a container with already squeezed juice from carrots will be blocked while you are working with apples);

• The function “Drop-stop” stops the liquid as soon as the container for collecting juice is taken out;

• Protection against turning on the device with broken assembly;

• Overheating protection will turn off the juicer if the operating limit is reached;

• The reverse will automatically start the shaft in the opposite direction if something extra has got inside or too much food has been loaded.

Disadvantages of screw juicers:

1. Limited time of one-time work. The operating range is on average 7–30 minutes, then the juicer motor needs to cool down (unlike centrifugal ones, which operate without load on the motor);

2. Low processing speed of products at the rate of the best extraction (the slower the screw rotates, the better the juice is squeezed out);

3. Manual washing of parts (not all juicers can be washed in a dishwasher, and for some devices such washing is allowed only for certain parts);

4. Washing the built-in cake collector, if it is full (if the container is full during operation, everything will have to be disassembled, cleaned and reloaded to continue spinning);

5. Storage space (horizontal juicers take up a lot of space on the table, and vertical ones are inconvenient to use if cabinets hang over the kitchen worktop).

How to clean the auger juicer after work?

Dmitry Kiselev:

“Before cleaning, be sure to read the instructions for working with a specific model, as much depends on the materials from which the device is made.

Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners and sponges, as well as wash the parts of the juicer under hot water (more than 60 degrees). Not all parts of the machine can be loaded into the dishwasher. I note that you can not wash the body of the juicer under running water, if necessary, just wipe it with a damp cloth.

Anton Ryazantsev:

“Most auger juicers need to be washed by hand, taking apart every detail. There are models that can be fully or partially loaded into the dishwasher. In expensive models, there is an automatic washing function: after squeezing the juice, water is poured into the funnel, and the equipment itself washes all its parts.

Which type of juice supply is better: through the spout or into the built-in container?

Anton Ryazantsev:

“The devices are cheaper with a spout, but the wringing process must be controlled so that the liquid does not flow over the edge of a free-standing container. Juicers with a built-in capacity do not require such control, but when changing the product, you will first have to disassemble everything, wash it, and only then continue working. And under the spout, it is enough to substitute another container and continue the squeeze.

Time and effort will help save the type of download. In a vertical loading juicer, products do not need to be pushed into the auger — they move forward due to gravity and their own weight, and horizontal devices require manual promotion of products. For additional time savings, choose models with a 75–85 mm feed neck. So the products do not have to be cut into smaller pieces.
