In most cas­es, the height of the bar counter is deter­mined by its func­tion­al pur­pose, since it can both per­form a dec­o­ra­tive func­tion and serve prac­ti­cal pur­pos­es. More recent­ly, this piece of fur­ni­ture was con­sid­ered a sign of lux­u­ry and wealth, but now every­one can afford such a beau­ti­ful and com­fort­able mod­el for orga­niz­ing a kitchen space.

What are the standard settings?

It is impos­si­ble to say exact­ly what the stan­dard dimen­sions of the bar counter are, because much more often they are made to order and have indi­vid­ual sizes. How­ev­er, some­times ready-made fur­ni­ture designs are on sale. The para­me­ters of such fur­ni­ture often cor­re­spond to the dimen­sions 110 * 60 * 120 (H * W * D). These sizes are not at all uni­ver­sal and are more suit­able for spa­cious kitchen spaces.

Height

The stan­dard height of the bar counter direct­ly depends on how this design will be used. There are sev­er­al place­ment options in rela­tion to the height of the kitchen unit:

1. Above kitchen fur­ni­ture. Height from 110 to 120 cm. Sep­a­rate piece of fur­ni­ture com­plete with high bar stools.
2. On the same lev­el with the table­top — 86, 88, 91 cm. The exact size depends on the fur­ni­ture legs that are used in this set (10, 12, 15 cm). The design can act as an addi­tion­al sur­face for cook­ing. Nei­ther sim­ple chairs nor bar stools are suit­able for such an ele­ment. 3. 74–78 cm — below the kitchen set. In this case, a din­ing table may not be required, since the use of stan­dard chairs is implied.

Length

The size of the kitchen pre­de­ter­mines the length of the bar counter. It should be, first of all, con­ve­nient and com­fort­able. In a kitchen with a small area, a bulky design will be inap­pro­pri­ate, it will look too big, and you will have to con­stant­ly bypass it. In a spa­cious room, a short ele­ment looks extreme­ly dis­pro­por­tion­ate and ugly.

It is believed that the opti­mal length of a fur­ni­ture struc­ture for this pur­pose should be at least 90 and not more than 180 cm.

When choos­ing the length of the rack, you need to focus on the num­ber of peo­ple who will use it. For com­fort­able accom­mo­da­tion of 1 per­son, 60 cm of the table­top is enough.

Width

The width of the bar counter is an impor­tant fur­ni­ture para­me­ter, which depends on the func­tion­al pur­pose of the struc­ture and the dimen­sions of the room. For small kitchens, it makes no sense to make a wide rack, because it will block the entire room and make the kitchen space uncom­fort­able. In large areas, too nar­row fur­ni­ture design will be inap­pro­pri­ate.

Rec­om­mend­ed widths range from 30 to 90 cm. If there is no room for a din­ing table in a small room, then a wide design can become a full-fledged din­ing area. The nar­row ele­ment is intend­ed only for the use of var­i­ous drinks (tea, cof­fee, etc.). Most often, such fur­ni­ture designs have a width of about 55–60 cm.

At the same time, the island is used as a din­ing table, and chairs are sub­sti­tut­ed for it.

An island bar counter for the kitchen is most appro­pri­ate in large rooms, since it will be nec­es­sary to leave aisles for the host­ess to move com­fort­ably (90–100 cm). In small kitchens, there is sim­ply not enough space for this. The min­i­mum size of the island is 60 * 120 cm. The opti­mal val­ues ​​​​of these para­me­ters are deter­mined by the size of the room. Simple

The clas­sic rack is a table­top attached at one end to the wall, and at the oth­er end rest­ing on a spe­cial sup­port — the bar leg. Anoth­er option is pos­si­ble, when the coun­ter­top rests on nar­row cab­i­nets, which are an excel­lent addi­tion­al stor­age space for kitchen uten­sils.

Combined and two-level

For a small kitchen

Kitchen fur­ni­ture with a small area should be com­pact and prac­ti­cal, as there is a short­age of free space. The dimen­sions of such rooms rarely allow you to place a full-fledged bar struc­ture. Wall-mount­ed and small clas­sic options are most appro­pri­ate here. They are a fair­ly nar­row table­top, rest­ing on a sup­port. In small-sized kitchens, var­i­ous fold­ing, retractable, fold­ing and rotary ele­ments are used.

How to calculate the height of the bar counter?

Ready-made bar coun­ters are more often made of a stan­dard height — about 110–115 cm. But such dimen­sions are not always con­ve­nient. There are strict rules only in cater­ing estab­lish­ments (restau­rants, bars, cafes, etc.). For per­son­al use, they make a bar counter of the desired and con­ve­nient size. When cal­cu­lat­ing the height para­me­ters, you need to focus on the anatom­i­cal fea­tures and indi­vid­ual wish­es:

• the nature of the work that is per­formed stand­ing;
• pos­ture in a sit­ting posi­tion.

There should be a ver­ti­cal dis­tance of about 30 cm from the table­top to the seat of the chair.
